A Poppy is to Remember

Clubs note: The Grade 2 Textile Club needs to be moved to THURSDAY, November 7th this week.  Students will still eat their lunch in the gathering area with their class at 11:45am and meet Ms. Kelly in Room 179 when the bell rings at 12:10pm.

Happy birthday, Ibrahim and Ms. Lysak!

Tomorrow is the last day for picture day orders, online or sent to the classroom.

We were so excited that intramurals started today for Grade 2. We will have the opportunity to choose to participate or not on the three Mondays in November.

Today we read "A Poppy is to Remember" and we were reminded that:
- A poppy is to remember all the soldiers that died in the Great War (Braeden)
- A poppy is to show peace to our land (Adam)
- We sang "In Flanders Fields" in music class (Rana)

In writing, we were showing, not telling, using descriptive words, so if you tell that's boring (Mila).

We started to learn about Canadian artist Maud Lewis. In the next week or so we will be learning to critically examine her art through describing, analyzing, interpreting and evaluating.

We learned about her art:
- She loved painting (Naomi)
- She had no white spaces in her art (Evelyn)
- She painted pictures of what she saw (Bria)

We learned about her health/life:
- She was starting to get old and sick (Alivia) so she painted her house (Maddox)
- She tried her best and couldn't do it as well when she was older (Avery)

Fun facts about Maud Lewis:
- She painted happy pictures! (Stone)
- She painted things that she actually saw (Zoey S.)

We will be having a "VIP" student from each class starting tomorrow. The student of the day will get to bring in a picture book that is special to them, and share it (either they can read it, or they can have their teacher read it). Our star student will also get to be the line leader, they will enjoy special helping privileges, and more! Our Star Students of the Day for tomorrow are:
- Zoey R from Mrs. Seymour's class
- Xaviera from Mrs. Cose's class
Please remember to bring in a (picture) book that you'd like to share tomorrow.

Thank you for bringing in cardboard boxes - we have enough now! :)

Please bring in non-perishable food items for the Veteran's Food Bank.

Important Upcoming Dates:
- Wednesday, November 6th: Class Photos and Individual Retakes
- Thursday, November 7th: Crazy Hair Day and Fun Lunch (Subway)
