Pond Walk

Just an FYI to families of students in Mrs. Cose's class :)

We are planning to take students on a walk to New Brighton Pond Monday and/or Tuesday next week. Mrs. Seymour's class will be at Ralph Klein Park.

Please send appropriate outdoor shoes and clothing (snowpants too!) for an enjoyable experience.

Happy HALF-WAY day!

Happy Half-Way Through Grade 2 Day!
We've been in school 90/180 days so far.

No school tomorrow - PD Day

Field trip on Monday/Tuesday for Mrs. Seymour's class:
- bring a leak-proof water bottle that is filled and ready to go
- a litterless packed lunch and snacks
- dress in layers
- bring outdoor boots (we'll pack our indoor shoes in our backpacks)
- gloves and a warm hat (gloves will be better for sketching outside, but mittens will suffice if that's all you have :))
- warm winter jacket / snow pants

STEAM Club Update:
Steam club will be canceled on Feb 3rd and 4th due to the grade 2 Ralph Klein field trip. STEAM club will resume on Feb 10th and 11th and the Monday group will make up the day they missed on Feb 24th and the Tuesday group on Feb 18th.

We sketched artifacts and looked really closely at objects to make sure we were capturing all of the details using different kinds of strokes.

We learned about taking FLAB photographs:
- FOCUS on the target (Corbin)
- LIGHTING (Maddox)
- ANGLE (above/below, front) (Marek)
- BACKGROUND and foreground (Braeden)

We went on the computers to work on our math skills playing Prodigy (Jaxon).

Have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you on Monday!

Decade Day: Blast from the Past

Here we are celebrating Decade Day:

Here is Mrs. Seymour's class doing different dances over the past few decades:

In math, we solved problems using many different strategies, including using the Hundreds Chart, base ten blocks, and making a list.

Highlights from our learning today:
  • we started brainstorming/practicing techniques for our alliteration art (Chasity)
  • we dressed up from the past, we watched some videos about culture changing in previous decades (Marek)
  • we did some square dancing to learn about traditional dancing in the prairies from the past (Jaxon)
  • in math, we worked on a problem about garbage left on tables and we had a "Level Up" challenge question (Drayden)

Highlights from our learning today:

  • Some of us had choir at lunch today! (Aubrey)
  • We wrote about a snowman that turned alive, and we learned how to write a paragraph (Myles & Braeden)

Reminder:

  • go to prodigygame.com and use your login to play an awesome math game! (Drayden)
  • tomorrow is DECADE DAY! Please dress up in a fun decade
  • Fun Lunch on Thursday
  • Friday is a PD Day - no school (Sofia)

Here's a fun math game you can play at home to practice your +1 and +100 facts! Ask your parents to give you a number and see how fast you can add 10 to it. Or use these random numbers to make it a game :) How many can you do in a minute?

A compliment that fades (doesn't stick) is:

CPAWS - Day 2, Water Rangers!

Happy half-birthday, Corbin!

Thanks to Sawyer for making connections at home to what we learned about yesterday in CPAWS and for showing us something else cool about the Earth.

What did we learn today from CPAWS:

  • most of our water comes from the Bow River and the Elbow River (Ibrahim)
  • we can help by using less water (Alexis)
  • we should keep wetlands! (Chase)
  • to clean your car you should go to the car wash because if you clean it on the driveway, soap will go down the drain to the storm ponds (Jaxon)
  • dispose of paint properly at hazardous waste facilities (Alivia)

Tomorrow is compliment day! We talked briefly about the types of compliments that are meaningful. We'll write more about this tomorrow.

- We can carpool to not use so much fuel and gas. (Adam)
- We can stop using the clothes dryer and hang our clothes to dry. (Naomi)
- Working together can be hard, but it is easier if we communicate. (Abem)
