In PE we were trying to match the exact same pictures of snowmen. There were some pieces missing so my team did not win, purple team won. (Avery)

Last full day of 2019!

Reminder: Early dismissal tomorrow (11:45), no school on Friday

Highlights from today:

  • we sang Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and other songs that are in Christmas (Corbin)
  • we used our audience manners at the assembly (Myles)
  • we had a switch-up day because instead of going to our class right away for read aloud like we usually do, they called us for carolling right away after lunch (Zaeem)
  • we wrote about Santa and we made the art to go with it... you'll have to come to see what it's all about!
  • in Phys. Ed we did an elf hunt and we did a "snowball fight" (it was actually revenge!) (Drew)
  • in math, we did some patterns with Christmas lights where the core of the pattern included green-orange-red (Maddox)
Here is Mrs. Seymour's class brainstorming/justifying their answers about which cores could or could not have been part of a pattern.

1.5 days until Christmas break!

Tomorrow is Ugly Sweater Day! Feel free to wear a funky Christmas sweater :)

This week we're having a great time with some Christmas-themed literacy and math centres... we're still working on writing with description, word work, number concepts, patterning, and more! It's just all through a holiday-themed lens!

Yesterday we had a lockdown practice and even with substitute teachers, we did a pretty good job. We need to remember to be quiet for the whole time. We also had carolling for the first time yesterday and it was so fun!

Today we heard from the DMCS Jazz band... they were amazing!

A number of students in our classes have overdue library books. Please be sure to bring them back this week before the holiday break.

A hard copy of your child's report card was sent home yesterday. You are also able to access it in PowerSchool. If you would like a paper copy in June, please indicate so and send in the report card envelope with the attached page.

Reminder: this Thursday/Friday are conferences... please sign up if you haven't already! We'd love to see you :)

Please note that Thursday is a half-day (early dismissal at 11:45).

Friday 13 December 2019

Our last Friday of 2019 together!

Sent home today:

  • Field Trip forms for Ralph Klein Park in January... we need forms back ASAP please! We also need 10 volunteers each day... please let us know if you're available for one or both days. Please email your child's teacher if you can volunteer and we'll have the forms available for you to sign at conferences. Thanks so much in advance for helping us have a successful field trip!
    • Mrs. Cose's class will be going on Monday/Tuesday, January 13/14
    • Mrs. Seymour's class will be going on Wednesday/Thursday, January 15/16
  • Report cards were released electronically today. A paper copy will be coming home on Monday, with a note asking whether or not you'd like a printed report card in June. When you send the envelope back, please make sure you've filled this out. Thanks so much!

Thanks to those of you who have booked conferences already! If you haven't, we're hoping to see you next Thursday or Friday. Click here to book: https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html
Reminder: early dismissal next Thursday (11:45) the 19th, and no school on Friday the 20th.

Some of our students are learning the hard way that we need to dress appropriately for outside. Please review this website (https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/forecasts/school-day/alberta/new-brighton-school) for tips on how to dress appropriately. Please LABEL as much as possible, as many students have similar belongings... Feel free to send a spare set of (labelled) gloves and/or socks.

Highlights from our learning today:

  • now I know that there's a type of box that sinks, cardboard (Kohde)
  • in math, we learned 10 place blocks and 1 place blocks and we got foam dice and we used it and we connected two numbers to make 2-digit numbers and then we used 10 and 1 blocks to connect them into a 2-digit number (Zaeem)
  • I learned with my partner building the boat, we improved our design by compromising and making a lid (Avery)

Tomorrow we are excited for Grade 2 intramurals at lunch for those who are interested!
